July 31 Reasons To Be CheerfulYou wait for a good piece of rawk news and then three come along at once. I had a meeting with some very nice people from Columbia records yesterday (that isn't a euphemism) who got me very excited about the new Kings Of Leon album. They are one of my absolute favourite bands (even though, contrary to every other opinion I've ever heard or read, I think they've got progressively slightly less good with each successive album) so I was keen to get the lowdown. Apparently they are all very excited about it at the record company and it's on the office stereo all the time. While I'm waiting for a copy I'm having to make do with the free download of Crawl on NME.com - you could do a lot worse. I also heard yesterday about Jack White and Alicia Keys collaborating on the new Bond theme tune. I'm interested in just about anything he's involved in (and it sounds a damn sight more interesting than the original Mark Ronson/Amy Winehouse proposition) so that was good too. Best of all by a country mile, however, was the announcement that AC/DC are to be embark on their first tour for eight years in October. I only became a fan relatively recently and wasn't even sure if I would ever get the chance to see them live. So, all in all, a good day. July 29 Back On The HorseDon't worry, I haven't resumed my love affair with heroin, I just couldn't think of any other way to signal my return to blogging. As you can see, it's been a while. Why? Oh I don't know. I got out of the habit some time back and then I was on holiday for a while and blah blah... who cares? I'm here now, right? One thing I am unlikely ever to lose the habit of is watching classic music performances on YouTube. Just ask any of my managers. So it occurred to me in the shower this morning that featuring some of them on my blog might be the best way to go. So here are two of my absolute favourites. First up is Stevie Wonder performing Superstition on Sesame Street in, I think, 1972. Everything about this is perfect. Not only are we talking about one of the greatest pieces of music ever written, he's playing it to a load of kids on Sesame Street! And you HAVE to check out the little dude of indeterminate gender (hey, it was the '70s) rocking out on the balcony. I could watch this again and again. Actually, I have... The other is a 'refreshed' Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood of the Rolling Stones attempting to record an ident for a then new MTV in the early 1980s. Trust a pro! What are you favourite clips like this? Let me know and I might just feature them at a later date. July 07 Amy In Trouble Again
The Camden-based singer climbed down to the pit in front of the Pyramid stage, at Worthy Farm, in Pilton, Somerset, to meet fans during set closer Rehab, and scuffled with an unseen reveller. She spent most of the set going on about her imprisoned husband Blake Fielder-Civil. But despite the rambling banter between songs, Amy remained as watchable as ever. Question is, what will she do next? |
